Charges dropped in O'Hare sex toy scare

CHICAGO IL (UPI) -- A felony charge against an Iraqi man who told security screeners at Chicago's O'Hare Airport his penis pump was a bomb have been dropped.

Mardin Amin, 29, was arrested Aug. 29 after screeners said when asked what an unusual object was in his hand luggage, he twice whispered "bomb."

Amin tried to explain he was saying "pump," as in one for soccer balls, as he was too embarrassed to state its real purpose because his mother was standing nearby.

Wednesday, Cook County prosecutors agreed to drop the charge against Amin, who faced up to three years in prison if convicted.

Amin's lawyer, Eileen O'Neill, told the Chicago Sun-Times there was compelling reason to drop the charge.

"Right from the get-go, it made no sense that a guy who has worked as a translator for (the U.S.) Army in Iraq wouldn't know the consequences of saying, 'I have a bomb,'" she said.

'Dog The Bounty Hunter' Arrested, Faces Extradition

MSNBC has learned that U.S. officials have arrested TV reality star Duane "Dog" Chapman and two family members for extradition to Mexico.

Chapman's wife told MSNBC's Rita Cosby that heavily armed U.S. marshals arrived at the family's house today and took away Chapman, his brother, Tim, and son, Leland.

Cosby said she was told that Mexican government officials wanted the three men sent back there in relation to a three-year-old case.

In 2003, the Chapmans went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to retrieve Max Factor heir Andrew Luster, who was wanted in the U.S. on rape charges.

Luster is now in jail, serving a 124-year term, but at the time, the Chapmans were also jailed by Mexican authorities for a brief time three years ago.

Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.

At the time, the Chapmans were charged by Mexican authorities with illegally capturing Luster. The three returned to the United States after posting bail of their own.

Dr. Laura: Today's Women are Whores

NY Post - The hypocrisy of Dr. Laura Schlessinger knows no bounds. Despite the skeletons rattling in her own closet, the acerbic radio gabber slams today's women in a new book, claiming the typical American female is a slut. "Men see women as sex objects when women act like unpaid whores . . ."

Schlessinger writes in "The Proper Care and Feeding of Marriage," due from HarperCollins in January: "Now it is difficult to find the male who values virginity, purity and innocence when females dress like babes and perform oral sex and intercourse without even having to be fed dinner . . . Who cares about vows - after all, why buy the cow when the milk is free."

Schlessinger's tirade may seem contradictory to some considering her own past behavior. In the mid 1970s, when she was in her early 20s, Schlessinger posed nude for a boyfriend, the late radio talk-show host Bill Ballance, who years later posted the full-frontal shots on the Internet. And soon after, she started seeing a married California doctor with three kids who subsequently left his wife for the homewrecker.

The therapist, now 59, also spanks wives who complain about their husbands being too horny, "as if being desired were some kind of intrusion or insult . . . Get over yourselves and get under your men (although most men enjoy their women on top, too)! If you don't, when the kids are up and out, he'll likely be with them."

She adds that one key to a good marriage is for couples to be kind to their own families. "It is amazing to me how many people treat absolute strangers with more courtesy, kindness and sensitivity than their own spouses and families," she complains. Yet for years, Schlessinger was estranged from her now-deceased mom and she remains estranged from her sister.

It's unlikely Schlessinger will be bothered by any criticism, as she's been in the frying pan plenty of times for past remarks. The gay community once ripped her for calling homosexuality a "biological error."

'Penis' in microwave case is settled

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - The case of the "penis" in the microwave was settled this morning with an agreement on a disorderly conduct plea.

McKeesport Police Capt. Bryan Washowich said Leslye Creighton, 41, of Wilkinsburg, has agreed to take full responsibility for the incident in which she asked a clerk at a Get Go convenience store to warm up a penis-shaped device in the store's microwave.

When the object gave off an odor, the clerk checked on it and found what she thought was a real penis. She reported it to police.

Ms. Creighton agreed to plead guilty to disorderly conduct. Her companion in the case, Vincent Bostic, 31, of Pittsburgh, who was also charged, will have the case against him withdrawn.

The two entered the convenience store in February, asked the clerk to place the device in the microwave in order to bring the urine-filled device up to body temperature so Ms. Creighton could pass a drug test to get a job.

Mr. Bostic's attorney, William H. Difenderfer, said Mr. Bostic has agreed to replace the $425 microwave at the store in exchange for the charges being dropped against him.

John Mark Karr Facing Child-Porn Charges

California [People Magazine] - John Mark Karr, who confessed to the 1996 JonBenet Ramsey murder but was cleared by DNA evidence, is expected to be arraigned on child pornography charges on Wednesday in a Sonoma County courtroom.

Karr's arrival at Oakland International Airport late Tuesday was greeted with considerably less fanfare than his touchdown in Los Angeles last month after he'd been arrested in Thailand for allegedly killing JonBenet.

Witnesses said Karr, 41, quickly exited a commercial flight, walked down the tarmac and left the airport in a vehicle with tinted windows. He is being held at the Sonoma County jail in Santa Rosa and is scheduled for arraignment at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Earlier Tuesday, Boulder County authorities released Karr, who had been held in Colorado for about two weeks. On Aug. 28, Karr was released from custody in Boulder, but promptly re-arrested after officials in Sonoma County, Calif., faxed over paperwork saying they wanted to extradite him to California to face child pornography charges.

The former schoolteacher had been charged with five counts of possessing child pornography in Sonoma County in 2001, but skipped bail, fled the country and never stood trial.

Woman faces prison after setting boyfriend's penis on fire

MONTREAL [Canadian Press] - Sentencing arguments will begin in November for a woman who followed in the footsteps of Lorena Bobbitt, the Virginia woman who gained infamy in 1993 for slicing off her husband's penis.

Andree Rene's weapon of choice was fondue fuel.

Following an argument in April, 2001, the woman set her boyfriend's penis on fire as he slept.

The 52-year-old man suffered third-degree burns in the pelvic area and on his chest. He spent a month in hospital.

Rene was found guilty of aggravated assault last year.

Sentencing arguments begin Nov. 21.

It's not clear why so much time elapsed between conviction and sentencing.

The maximum sentence is 14 years in prison.

The Crown attorney said he will ask for a jail term, but wouldn't elaborate on how many years in prison he will seek.

Rene remains free on bail until sentencing.

Legal analyst Steven Slimovitch said Rene could avoid a jail sentence, unless she acted with premeditation.

UNC Reserve Punter Arrested For Allegedly Stabbing Rival In Leg

GREELEY CO [TheDenverChannel.com] -- The University of Northern Colorado's reserve punter was expelled from school after allegedly stabbing his rival in his kicking leg.

Mitch Cozad, who had been a sophomore from Wheatland, Wyo., allegedly attacked starting punter Rafael Mendoza in a parking lot in Evans on Monday night, Evans police Lt. Gary Kessler said.

A university employee associated with the athletic department who asked to remain anonymous, told the Greeley Tribune that Cozad, who was wearing a hood over his head, attacked Mendoza from behind, stabbing him in his right leg between the buttocks and his hamstring.

Mendoza, the Bears' first-string punter from Thornton, was treated and released from the North Colorado Medical Center Monday night. Coach Scott Downing said Mendoza will not punt for UNC in Saturday's game at Texas State University.

"I don't know how long he'll be out because I haven't talked to the doctor," Downing said.

Cozad, Mendoza and freshman Zak Bigelow had been in a three-way race for the starting punter's job in pre-season training. Mendoza has averaged 37.6 yards-per-punt on nine punts in the two games so far this season.

Cozad was arrested Tuesday and faces second-degree assault charges. He was due in court for a bond hearing on Wednesday.

UNC athletic department officials suspended Cozad from the football team Tuesday morning, according to the newspaper. He was later expelled from school and evicted from Turner Hall.

The football team was instructed not to talk to reporters about the incident, according to the Greeley newspaper.

Cozad had transferred to UNC from the University of Wyoming and was born in Denver.
